I can't seem to find any single pole momentary wall switches. They all seem to be 2 button, or up/down. In general, P&S, Leviton and Hubblle all seem to have very limited selections of low voltage switches.

Does anyone know where I can find a little variety in low voltage switches?

What are you trying to do? I'm doing a low voltage switching job now. Up is on & down is off (thru relays). I don't have the cat numbers right now, but they're Hubbell. I can get the numbers if need be.

The contractor installed a 3 position switch to a "low voltage controller". He paralleled the two contacts. So up is on, up is off, down is on, up is off.........

The customer is rightly perplexed. I think a button like a doorbell would be much better, but I'm not sure how they will react to a light switch that looks like a doorbell.

I also though of radio shack, but I would rather have a switch on a strap so it mounts to the electrical box. I may have to live without that and just have the switch mounted to a plastic coverplate.

this is a wall switch from leviton, its single pole double throw momentary,if double throw is ok. its catalog number is 1256-i

It's always bothered me that the electrical industry produces nearly nothing in the way of what are basic switches in any other field.

Thanks for the replies, but the double throw was what I was trying to get away from.

I think radio shack will have to work.

The momentary contact switches provide a needed element of safety for operating garbage disposals. The switch requires the user to hold it in the on position, shutting off automatically when released. This is another P&S product that provides additional safety in an attractive package.

maybe this would work its the rocker type switch

Thanks Hess. Thats exactly what I was looking for. It even comes in all the standard colors (we use the light almond a lot - they are better looking than the ivory).

My P&S catalog must be out of date - it doesn't list those.

Sounds like you have General Electric's RR lighting control relays. These are latching relays with two 24 volt AC coils, 1 for turning on the relay and 1 for turning off the relay. You should be able to order the rocker switches and relays from a General Electric dealer.

I see these a lot in churches and libraries and so forth. If somebody is working after hours they only need to crank on the lights that they need.

International Exposition Center has these but with the control function through the telephone system. You call up a certain extension number on the PBX, punch in the circuit number, then push a key to turn on or off. This allows them to illuminate only active areas on the show floor. About 1 out of 25 light fixtures burns all of the time and runs off a 277 volt uninterruptible power supply.

SquareD makes QO115PL and QO120PL circuit breakers that are a similar concept but with a 24 volt DC control circuit. You turn the lighting contact on and off by changing the polarity of the white wire and then a small DC motor operates until the power contact and an auxiliary contact operate. These can be made to work off of SPDT ice cube relays off of a programmable controller or manually using a SPDT switch.

If it is the old GE system,they were available 2 years ago and might still be.They were not cheap as i recall.Maybe something like $10 each.Really not a bad system at all.Could cheaply control lights from many locations.

Use a 3 way switch.

a 3 way swich is nothing more and a common, NC,NO switch with the system you are using

IE: requires power to turn it off and on.

The switch is for a low voltage controller, but it is an option that comes with the light fixture. It is made to connect to a hospital bed so the patient can turn the lights on and off with momentary contact buttons on the bed.

The switch at the door is basically for the nurses.
