When you wire a switch with these types of clamps (Picture attached) you just have to strip the wire and put in under the clamps, correct? You don’t need to put any hooks on the wire, correct?

I never liked these clamps. I always preferred making my own hooks and wrapping around the screws.

What do you mean exactly?
That the screws on these devices are often not tightened properly. With the solid wire straight into the hole if they are installed with a torque screwdriver to the proper torque value the connections will not loosen when the device is installed.

With commercial grade devices that’s not as much of a problem but you do have to make sure that you tighten the screws properly and test by twisting the device to make sure the plate doesn’t rotate around the conductor.

What do you mean exactly?
It typically manifests when twisting the device left or right to go from the neutral screws to the hots, or visa versa. Suddenly, the screws aren't tight.

I mentioned it once, and someone suggested flattening the wires with your Kleins before inserting. I never tried it

As Hal mentioned, the commercial grade devices are better. The plate is thicker than the flimsy ones on the residential grade
