Open bottom, conduits just turn 90 up and extend to a few inches from the cover, or the come in from the side at an angle and just float above the bottom of the box, With a closed bottom the come in from the side and there are "mouse holes" that you knock out and the conduit comes through them and an angle in to the bottom of the box through the side wall. Or it it is a sealed one, which your picture doesn't depict, there will be PVC fitting with a plug in the side and you knock out the plug of the one you want to use and connect the PVC to it.

never used closed bottom, but I know there are pre-punched KO's.

on open bottom, it needs to set in a gravel bed, and the bottom inside should be filled with gravel. 90 up into the enclosure. When using large conduit/conductors and large handholes, I have 45'd into them.

Thanks. So when using open bottom you can pull conductors out of one elbow and back down into the other elbow?

you can, but that isn't always practical. if I'm setting boxes several hundred feet apart, i'm not pulling the slack out to make a continuous run. Usually we just pull to each handhole and splice with mechanical connectors.

And what do you use to weatherproof the splice ? Also why not compression splice . Takes more time?

And a tip:
On 2” conduits, Cut off a short length of pool noodle, cuts slit in it and use to plug end of conduit
For smaller conduits use short lengths of backer rod, which is available in various sizes

I use Polaris lugs w/ the cables positioned to keep it near the lid. A good gravel bed should prevent water from sitting in the box anyway. I don't use compression unless specified.
We used 3M scoktchcast kits, slow but reliable. Today I would use a Polaris lug
