I found a text book that says to size the conductors for the branch circuit acording to the demand factor of Table 220.55. Until now I thought that this was for calculating the service only, although note 4 does start with, "Branch Circuit Load". So my queston is this; where in the NEC could I find somthing clearly stating to use the demand factors of table 220.55 for my Conductor Size?

I think it's all in Note 4. The first sentence is all you need, if you are talking about a single range. The rest of the note applies when you are dealing with counter-mounted or wall units.

220.14(B). This section is located under Part II Branch circuit load calculations.

This section states that load calculations for branch circuits shall be permitted as specified in 220.55 for electric ranges.

In Table 220.55 Note 4 permits the use of the table for calculating the load for a branch circuit.
