I read somewhere in the 2002 codebook for sj cord can be used for fixture whips in exposed ceiling. Incandescent lighting didn't require a plug but fluorescent did and I am not able to locate this code now. Can anyone help I have been reviewing the code and still can't find anything except sj can be used for fixture wiring I am trying to find the detail that say I am able to use it as a permant fixture wiring application to track lighting in a grocery store that has 6000 feet of tracklite supported with jack chain can anyone help please everything is running together lol.

I agree that 400.7 allows it.

That said I recommend using MC or AC it will blend in nicely with the jack chain and IMO result in a better quality installation.

Bob,
If nothing else, this forum sure makes me re-think my position on inspection items. At first read, I would have said using the cord to feed a section of track lighting (which is the way I read it) as opposed to an individual fixture, would be a violation according to 400-8 (1). In addition 400-4 lists SJ uses as portable or pendant. You, at least, have me thinking.
