What type of smoke alarm system is required for an order in/Take out resturant. This resturant is in a "residential style building", with tenents living upstairs. There is romex through out the place. I don't do alot of smoke alarm systems other than residential. Are there other codes involved that are not covered in residential? Where might one find these codes? Do they have to be connected to a dispatch or anything of this nature? Thanks for any help.

Depends upon your building code but most likely you would need a commercial grade system for both the restaurant and the residential tenants. You would need to install a single multizoned system for all of the occupants.

Some building codes, such as Ohio Bogus Building Code, do not allow a building to be used for both residential and commercial purposes. Same goes for zoning board thought police. If a pregnant employee needs to punch out and take a midday nap she has to go home to take the nap. You cannot set up a small be for her at work! How this occurs is that the real estate interests want to sell or rent more buildings. There is no legitimate safety reaosn for this restriction.
