In a 2 family dwelling do all of the smoke detectors have to interconnected to each other?
Or does only the common area smokes have to be interconnected?
And is it better to use heat detectors instead of smokes in some areas?

Smoke detector requirements are in the building code. By me the detectors in each dwelling unit are inter tied within each unit.
The common areas would be inter tied with each other
