Is there any code requirement on installing solenoids in wet locations? I am installing a 120V solenoid valve to operate the shower heads. The solenoid would be located before the shower head. Are there any rules on wiring and conduit requirements because of the wet location?

Aren't water controls usually part of the plumbing behind the wall?

Re: Solenoids in Shower

I would feel better if the circuits were GFCI or better yet 24 volts. The solenoids should only be accessible from the side of the wall opposite the shower stall.

What kind of control switches are you using? If they are inside of the shower stall they need to be pneumatic or fiber optic similar to what is used to control hot tubs.

Do not forget to install check valves in the hot and cold water lines for each mixing valve. Otherwise, the mixing valves will cross connect the hot and cold water mains.

My uncle David teaches at a seminary in Boston where they were flushing toilets with hot water until I stuck in a bunch of check valves. The cold water in this wing was on 1 water service on 1 street and the hot water heater for the whole building was on another water service of another street. They theoretically had hot water going out the one water meter and into the street main.

The only time they had trouble afterward was when a piece of dirt caused a check valve to stick open. I asked my uncle David if the other check valves were still clicking. He said, "no," and I told him to have a plumber come out and replace all 6 check valves.

Also, if you flush a toilet with hot water you can split it in half. If you are sitting on that toilet when it splits you will cut your groin arteries and bleed to death in a minute.
