... but this gave me the op to have steady income and move on to new things

Before you move onto anything else, please figure out what your pricing NEEDS to be in order to make money I can assure you unless you are posting from India, your rate needs to be more than $30 hr. Just because money is coming in the door doesn't mean that you are making a profit.

Just know that when the electric was in house...This guy charged 7k for a 3300sq ft two story, with 80 cans and Lutron Maestro dimmers everywhere, that one had to HURT

What area of the country are you in? That 7K doesn't sound right for anywhere.

Yeah its a messed up deal when I came on board, I was the sparky, 1 year later I found out we have no Lisc...Im like OK, went and got it, after not being able to make more than 16 an hour for the guy, and do stupid amounts of sidework, I decided to change, problem around here is when you do service work for someone, that poop when you give them a bill....Im in Northwest Indiana, people are cheap man..Lot of people wanting rehabs rewired for 500 plus material, yeah not even possible

our motto is "someone has to be the highest electrician in town ,it might as well be me" I use to get nervous when making out the bill and I would talk myself out of money I billed at 30 /hr and the first time I billed at 40/hr I thought I would never get a call back but I did so I moved it up more and the work keeps coming in because we do good work.

yeah I do awesome work, thats for sure, I have a subdivision where I have done like 75 houses on my own, they all have great lookin, and working electric, and I am quick, Im doin a simple ranch, Service to Rough Inspection, including phone and cable in like 2-3 days, and dont have helpers..Thats the problem with this contractor is I have a house missing 5 light fixtures and its complete, he wont go get them, same with the roughs, he has changes but doesnt have time to come out and go over them...lol..he wont last much longer with the way things are going, you gotta be on top of itwhen times are tough

are these 75 houses with this contractor and are they houses you did as a contractor or working for someone, two days is awful fast for ruff in unless you mean 48 hours.

Unfortunately, It was for the GC while I was his employee, but I did all the consultation,so they all know my name. Like I said 2-3 days in rope all tray ceilings, plastic boxes and a staple gun, believe me simple a** houses, kinda sad. Im kinda wierd, throw on the MP3 player go at it from 6am to 7 or 8pm 10 minute lunches. Not a fun day, but it is a quick check. I make it a point to head back to the house after inspection, mark all my boxes with orange paint and double check my work

Never set a pace you can't keep the rest of your life,I don't understand "a quick check" if you were an employee then you fall under wage and hour laws

Without reading all the posts.. Tell the guy that you are uncomfortable finishing without recieving payment for the work you have done so far. If he won't pay you stop working and call your attorney.

I'm the " Guy on the Road to Early Burnout" and I approve this message.

Point being, you'll be miserable, tierd, worn out, and by the your own admission ($30.00 an hour) completely broke.

Time to smarten up. Not being mean, just honest.

no,this means when you are 50 you can still work like you were 30 wait till you are 50 then we will talk more.

I'm still having trouble understanding this. I assume by piece work, you tell him x hours for rough @ $30.00/hr right? Is this guy the builder or EC? You are not a true sub unless he writes you a PO for a specific scope of work, and you provide him certificates of insurance. Otherwise, you are an employee and he is responsible to match your taxes (which he's getting out of) and he will send you a 1099 at the end of the year.
What he appears to be doing is illegal. Threaten to turn him in to the IRS, before he gets you both into trouble.
