Source vs Output circuits

When you have a large PV array (with no optimizers), and you have multiple combiners going to a recombiner, and the recombiner output goes to the inverter... are the wires between the multiple combiners and the recombiner considered source or output circuits? I am assuming they are considered output circuits.

They are output circuits. A source circuit contains only solar modules in series. Once it's paralleled to another circuit or connected to another device it becomes something else.

One could argue that source circuits are a subset of output circuits, but I'm not sure it makes a meaningful difference to anything.

Get ready for the 2023 NEC where it looks like they are doing away with the concept of source and output circuits.
