There was a thread last week posted by another member from the south GA area who was curious about wages.

i've got a bid package for an airport expansion here and was glancing through it and found some of the prevailing wage rates.

here are just a few i share with you now:

Asphalt raker - 6.25
carpenter - 8.46
concrete finisher - 7.45
erector - 10.71
flagger - 5.85
iron worker - 10.54
paver - 6.83
backhoe - 8.11
bulldozer - 7.66
shovel - 9.26

fringe on all - 0

these didn't pertain to me, so i stopped there. these only apply to the south GA counties.

kyle, if you're still reading here, maybe this will make you feel better.

When you guys say the South Will Rise Again. I hope its the wages, until then,
I think I would stay with picking cotton.:D

i actually do pick cotton. but it doesn't pay that much these days either, which is why i started doing electrical work.

I really wanted to make a political comment here.. : ) Those are some really poor wages. Honestly it's hard for me to believe those figures are even real.

you got me. i just made it all up.

anyhow, i'm sure you can search the DOT website and find it on there somewhere also.

I wasn't doubting you.. just that it's unbelievable that someone can even afford to put gas in their car at those wages.

flagger - 5.85@40 hrs/ per week = $234/week - social security, state , federal and whatever else can be stolen from this person = maybe $195.00 if they are lucky
probably dont get better than ten miles per gallon in a car that wage will buy so this person probably chooses food or gas some weeks

At that rate I doubt they pay federal taxes.

Prevailing wage is normally considered Davis Bacon -

Wahington state does a pretty good job of explaining click here.
