Okay I need a starting point here.

I got a call about a spa installation I did about 3 months ago; after a hard rain, the homeowner finds the GFCI breaker has tripped.

It is a C-H BR type, 2-pole GFCI (came in that spa package). The original breaker that came with this had a defect, and I replaced it.

Its mounted in a 2-sp disconnect. #6 THWN goes through 1" PVC about 80' to the spa.

The spa is custom-built, and the pump and heater are in a self-contained housing that sits just a few feet away (plumbing leaves this unit and goes to the spa).

There is a hard-wired LV controller that is mounted in the brick that surrounds this spa.

The #6 goes into a junction box w/ terminals mounted on a circuit board. The pump and heater are plugged in on the underside of this housing.

That's about all I can remember from the install.

I've got to go by there and look at it within the next few days. If you've got any pointers on what to look for, I'd appreciate it.

yes it is buried.

as for the lightening; that was my first question, but they weren't sure if they had lighting in the area or not. its about 30 miles away, and i know during the same storm we had lots of lightening.

i was thinking there could be water getting in the control box, but it'll be dry by the time i get there i'm sure. it is sitting on a concrete pad, so i wonder if its possible that rain is 'bouncing' back up into it. I think its less than 12" from the pad to the box. and the plugs are underneath as well.

Just tossing this out there, if you don't see anything obvious, maybe you should get out a hose and start dousing everything....

Cow might have a point.
Or you could change the $80.00 breaker. Then say if it hapens again let me know.
It could well be a manufactor defect. You would have to meg the wires to check your side.
