That's not as impressive as the speed Columbia was traveling.

I have seen it take off and land in person before, amazing, put a shuttle launch on your bucket list.

Thank you Bob! This is very interesting stuff !The NASA program has brought us some great stuff to say the least! Everything from velcro to global positioning! Oh!. we can't forget Tang!:D :grin: Man I am getting old!
 
We can see it streaking across the low southeastern sky about 12 minutes after florida launch usually very early in the morning. I have a nice power point slide show but I dont know how to attatch it.

A few years back a friend and I where heading to bar in the backwoods of NY. The GPS brought us right there no problem. I kind of laughed to myself about the use of billions of dollars in technology to get to a bar. It's a great country. :grin:
 
having grown up where I live now I am always in awe of anything related to space. From witnessing from a hilltop behind the house I grew up in the tests of the saturn v main engines to having worked on the test stands they were tested on. I remember 1 night test where they lit the first stage and burned it the full duration it burned during actual flights lit up the whole sky it was awesome.
 
my favorite nasa invention is the freeze-dried food. Whenever we go down to the cape, i pick up a lot of the french fries and ice cream. those two are my favorite. You can get it at some museums and other places around the country, but the selection isn't nearly what it is at nasa.

I watched it at the gym (trying to keep the ticker ticking) and I was somewhat surprised at how proud I felt ...
