Today doing underground install in same ditch over sewer line. Plumbers speak limited English so I ask my guy to ask if they had their inspection.
They go back and forth for a minute or two, I'm thinking there must be a problem. When they are done I ask my guy, "What did he say?"

He said yes.

How many Spanish words does it take to say yes???

I'd assume that they were having a harder time with the word "inspection"... because "la inspección" can mean inspection, but also survey, control, check, supervision, viewing, etc.

They also may have thought you were "la Migra" asking for their papers!

You to your guy: "Ask them if they had their inspection yet."
Your guy to plumbers: "He'd like to know if you had your inspection yet?"
Plumber 1: "That gringo is nosy. Why don't you tell him to mind his own business."
Plumber 2: "No, tell him plumbing is an art and we take our time."
Plumber 3: "Tell him if he's in such a hurry he should come down here and do it himself."
Plumber 1: "He's an ugly gringo too"
Plumber 2: "Ha, what do you expect."
Plumber 3: "Just tell him yes, we have to get back to work."
Your guy: "Yes."
You: :?

I was in a hotel in Orlando eating breakfast some years ago. At the next table was a Japanese couple with their son. He may have been 8 years old. Waitress comes to take their order. Mom ask son in Japanese what he wants. The kid goes on for 2-3 minutes in Japanese in a very animated fashion. Pounds his fist on the table. Once he’s quiet, mom turns to the waitress: “He wants eggs”.
I about lost it.
