SPD/TVSS

So I have a building that they claiming only during bad storms will the breaker trip for a captive air core panel. Captive air is suggesting that it is an electrical problem (it always is). My question to everyone is that the store claims it only happens few times a year during really bad storms. When this happens it shuts down the gas to their grills. How do you go about figure out the right size of SPD's? I'm pretty new to SPD's so I honestly don't know how to go about sizing one to install. Thanks

The fire system is electrically operated and thus requires a battery backup system. In the event of a loss of building electrical power, all gas and electric appliances under the hood must be electrically interlocked to shut off. This is achieved via a gas valve relay and/or a shunt trip breaker. The battery backup will automatically energize upon a loss of power. The battery backup will monitor the fire system circuit for up to 24 hours and be able to operate the fire system circuit for a minimum of 30 minutes. Once power is restored, the battery will automatically recharge.

Sounds more as though you are getting temporary power LOSSES, not spikes, in which case an SPD will not help. I think this needs more investigation before you start buying parts on assumptions. See if you can rent or borrow a recording power meter, hook it up and leave it there until there is another event.
