Took a 20" peice of 2? IMC, and matched a hole saw to the OD. Welded the hole saw to it, with a hole on the side to access the pilot bit set screw. Weled a flat plate on the other end with a peice of 1/2" hex key.

Makes doin' risers a whole lot faster!

Which came first, the LB or the downspout?

super cheap and easy to make this one on ebay. Its just a standard holesaw inserted into an extension bit, which appears to be held in the caps on the ends of the piece of pipe with some bearings and shaft collars. I should make some of these......

That shaft portion looks a LOT like conveyor roller stock.

Don't re-invent the wheel (shaft) if you don't have to.

good catch! i bet it is. Then just put the extension through it and a shaft collar at the drill end to hold the whole thing together. No cutting or weling involved!

hm. looked at it.... ok.. this isn't that hard to do...
get a holesaw arbor, chuck it in a 2' extension.
get a new holesaw, and a 22" piece of imc
weld holesaw to imc, grind smooth... (duh)
spin holesaw onto arbor and extension... drill hole...

smile....

ok, i can do this. good idea... thanks...

For less than $50 for the parts and your labor.

We just use a 1/2" X 24" bit to go through both the soffit and roof. Then we switch to the appropriate sized hole saw. We take the 1/4" pilot bit out of the hole saw and use a long reduced shank 1/2" bit instead. Now you can drill out the 1/2" hole up from the bottom of the soffit and then down through the roof. The long pilot bit allows you to hold the hole saw plumb when drilling down through the sloped roof.

I usually use a long 1/4" bit sometimes but occassionally I just eyeball a hole saw with an extension on it. Never had any problems. You can always fudge the hole at the top if need be.
