I'm constructing my own spider box using Leviton panel mount GFCIs that are apparently designed just for this application. I got the panel mounts from an associate but unfortunately the documentation was not included.

These GFCI have 4 leads, a line and neutral for the input and a line and neutral for the output.

However, there is a 5th white wire coming from the unit. Does anybody know how this wire is connected and how does it work?

Thanks for the help.

Forgive the observation, but that appears to be a home project, as opposed to the development of new equipment for your business. Forum rules prohibit us from giving assistance to a person who is not an electrician, but who intends to perform any type of electrical installation work.

So before I can allow anyone to answer your question, I must ask for clarification of your intent.

Sorry Charles. Actually I'm building a prototype to show to potential customers. Depending on the reception I get I intend to at some point to manufacture similar devices. While I'm not an Electrician, I am a degreed Electrical Engineer. Hope this helps.

I am also an EE, but they won't let me ask DIY questions here either. ;)

Since this is a work-related project, and not a home DIY project, it fits within the forum rules. Sorry for the inconvenience. Welcome to the forum.
