splices in main panel?

I was always told that you can not splice or wire nut within a breaker panel? Also that you can not use the main breaker panel as a pull can, to pull circuits through it? Can someone please provide NEC code if there is one.

That's an old myth that just hangs on. See article 312.8 and read the whole section.

The closest thing to match that statement aside from the reference Roger cited is 230.7 - but it does not say that either.

Hey I don't like splices in panels but what would be better in a remodel a Jbox above the panel because the wire is too short to make it to the breaker or splice and wire nut. ,,,,
