I have some existing larger size feeders coming into a distribution panel.

They want the panel interiors demoed and use the backbox as a splice box proving a new cover.

I then need to extend these feeders about 30'.

Spec aside, what would be your preferred method/material of splicing #4/0, #2/0 and #3 copper THHN. Compression, mechanical?

Same for me, but I like the cold shrinks better than heat shrinks
I like the heat shrink better, unless I am outside on a very cold day. In that case I will use a cold shrink, but in good weather or inside it will always be heavy duty heat shrink with the internal glue/sealant for me.

I would probably use Blackburn H-taps. They are super cheap and quick, have optional snap on plastic covers. 7 connector program does almost any combination up to 2 250's with just two dies.
