Greetings, We are moving a residential panel from one room to the next. Question is: The feeders to the panel are not long enough. Can they be spliced?
Only a 6x rule if they are being spliced.Yes keep in mind the 6X or 8X rule for the splice box if the conductors are #4 or larger.
Where are you getting that from? Looking at 314.28, I don't see a difference on the 8x whether it's spliced or pulled through.Only a 6x rule if they are being spliced.![]()
Okay, it took me a minute. I read 314.28 and saw "Pull and Junction Boxes" and did not notice that 314.28(A)(1) did not have splices in the wording where (A)(2) does.314.28(A)(2).
Gentlemen, Thank You for all the helpful information. Much appreciated! On this same job the inspector ( Taylor MI ) is requiring a disconnect switch mounted outside. I am searching for that language and cannot find anything that says I need a separate disconnect after the meter. (The panel has a main Breaker) Any ideas?

It appears you are splicing service conductors and not feeder conductors.Gentlemen, Thank You for all the helpful information. Much appreciated! NEC limits distance service entrance conductors can enter a building - yet doesn't give a distance and this leaves it up to individual AHJ's to determine what they will accept.230.70(A)1.
Maybe someone will have better answer when you need to install outside disconnect if panel is too far from point of entrance min. Feet distance

I think the code was written for pulling purposes the splicing would pertain to box fill calculations.Where are you getting that from? Looking at 314.28, I don't see a difference on the 8x whether it's spliced or pulled through.
Thanks.

There is no box fill calculation once the conductor size is #4 or larger. Table 314.16(B) ends at #6 AWG.I think the code was written for pulling purposes the splicing would pertain to box fill calculations.
