Splitting Satelite Signal

I have a DirecTV 5LNB satelite dish, with 2 incoming feeds into a low voltage box in my house. One of these feeds is currently tied into another cable to feed my master bedroom, and the other cable feeds my bonus room. I have two other bedrooms that I would like to install receivers for, so that each can watch satelite independently. Is it possible to split the two incoming feeds before they feed the receivers in the master bedroom and bonus room, and be able to install independent receivers in the other two rooms?
 
The newer dishes already have a 4 port multi switch built in, just run the rg6 from the new rooms to the dish... and your all set... you need a receiver for each tv location if you want independent control.


I use DirecTV, and have 2 tv locations, both locations have DVR, so they each require 2 runs of RG6, so if I ever added a 3rd receiever, I would need a multiswitch, but I would just call DTV since you can probably get the install for free...
 
Stick, I still have the 3-LNB dish with four RG-6's to the multiswitch, and two RG-6's to each of four dual-tuner TiVo's;thus my advice.

When I get a 5-LNB dish, what equipment will change with a dish with a built-in multiswitch? Will I need more dish-to-multiswitch cables?
 
Two regular recievers plus two more correct? If they are regular DTV recievers than a 3x4 switch is all you will need.
Must have two leads in direct from sat four out direct to TV. No spliters, at all. If any are dual tuning, usually just the dvr stuff with Direct, a 4x8(powered) or 6x8 switch must be used. Those require four leads direct from sat.

Eagle Aspen and Zinwell switches were the only ones DTV issued to us when I was a "tech", results may vary with other manufactures.

Free?:-? .... Last time I got caught up in the word "Free" it had an "I DO" :roll: connected to it.... Still paying for "Free"..:rolleyes: ...
 
You guys do not try hard enough if you don't get everything for free, I've never paid for ANY equipment ever, they have a retention department that will usually give in, if not just hang up and call back and get another person on the phone, its easier if your a long time subscriber...

Nothing should change in your example unless your using diplexers for OTA tuner, they will need to change out the existing multiswitch to one that supports the new Kband... The new dish is huge by the way... And your seriously missing out on the new HD content, make sure you get the HD DVR with the upgrade... it can connect to the internet and download free shows and stuff, pretty neat feature, its only in beta mode at the moment but still pretty cool.

I just don't have the pacience I guess. I have had things heavily discounted before, but the only "free" stuff came with signing another contract. Somthing I consider very un-free.

I tend to use that against them, the contract crap that they throw at ya, I like the service so the contract is not an issue for me, but paying for equipment that I can get for free from my local cable company usually makes them give it away minus the shipping fees... 20 dollars I think?

Each side has to have a few bargaining chips I guess. It's about that time of year for me, so I think it's time for an upgrade.:grin:

When I upgraded from my 3LNB to my 5LNB, I had them replace my HD tivo unit with the mpeg4 HD DVR unit, I only paid a shipping & handling fee,($20 dollars) and since they blew me off the first day, I ended up with HBO and free HD service for 6 months... ;)
