Does a sprinkler controller which is mounted on an outside wall (non residential) have to be gfi protected if it is cord and plug connected?

Re: Sprinkler controller

To be accurate, the sprinkler controller doesn't need GFCI protection but, the receptacle does, see 210.8. There is no relief for an outside receptacle supplying the controller

Re: Sprinkler controller

I don't have the 2005 in front of me, but doesn't it need to be "accessible to the public" to require GFCI protection in a non-dwelling?

That said, I'd protect it. :D

George you are correct. The receptacle that isn't accessible to the public does not require GFCI protection. Look at 210.8(B)(4).

Re: Sprinkler controller

Oooops, I just envisioned it on the side of a building where any and all could walk up to it.
