Mostly it would be a sprinkler head distribution pattern problem. You don't want to block the umbrella pattern of the spray.
No code violation that I'm aware of just being near.

you could not block the spray pattern. Might ask the sprinkler contractor or fire chief

Each situation would need to be appraised but your best answers come from NFPA 13 8.5.5 for non dwelling uses. Obstructions closer than 18" are a particular problem and a smaller obstruction will be considered. If it is further than 18" then obstructions over 4' will need a head under the obstruction. It is best to ask the sprinkler designer if possible.
