Does the NEC prohibit sprinkler heads in switchgear rooms?

Are there any limitations as to location in switchgear rooms?

In the 2002 NEC, look up Article 110.26(F)(1)and check out a handbook for a little better explanation.

The IBC and the NFPA 13 does not allow eliminating a sprinkler head from an electrical room. If your building is required to be sprinklered, you will have one in your equipment room, like it or not.

The sprinkler piping can be in an electrical room, but not in the dedicated electrical space as described in 110.26.
