Sprinkler system question

Sorry to ask this but I could not find it myself. I always thought anything mounted near a sprinkler spout ( fire protection ) had to be a min of a foot away. So the spout could spread thr water without interuption. Does anyone know this code or even what article it is in. I have both the 05' and 08' nec's
 
Yes, NFPA 13 would give you this information. NFPA 13R is used for residential occupancies up to and including 4 stories in height. NFPA 13D is used for one and two family dwellings and manufactured homes.

NFPA 13 is correct. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as anything has to be mounted a min. of a foot away from a sprinkler. NFPA 13 discusses Obstructions to Sprinkler Discharge, Obstructions to Pattern Development and Obstructions that Prevent Sprinkler Discharge From Reaching the Hazard.

You'd have to look in NFPA 13 for your specific case rather than using a rule of thumb.
