I need a sq d MAL 36400 moled case circuit breaker for a service job. if any one happens to have one they would like to part with send me a PM. Thanks

Check the used circuit breaker market on line, if you can't locate one IM me I can put you in contact with a used dealer that can locate most anything.

The internet is a great way to find things. I thought I would check to see if any one here may have pulled one out of a new switch gear or had one for what ever reason. It doesn't need to be in the box just "like new" would be acceptable. I will have it tested before installing it. The one it is to replace is locked in the on position, from what I am told. It is a load that I can not shut down to test unless I have a back up part ready if it fails to close and restart. This is the main in a 120/208 3/0 switch gear that is buss in and bolted not cabled. Is it possible to change to a different stile of breaker like a SQ D-LAL type?

If this is a critical lopd that can not be shut down, why in Earth is the customer quibbling over a few pennies (in regards to revenue they might lose with a shut down).

Sell them a new CB

Well, I always wondered what a $5000 circuit breaker looked like!

I was having trouble with this as well.

Sell them one to install and another to sit on the shelf. We have a customer that has spare sections of 2000 amp bus duct 'just in case'.

George, don't believe the list prices. ;)

My Square D catalog lists $6300 for a new one (with 3 poles).

I always knew you couldn't believe the list prices, but it would be nice to know what kind of multiplier to use to use to get more realistic prices.

I use RS Means for all my project estimating. Even it lists $3425 as the material price for a 400A MAL. If they really only cost $2000, then I am supprised. I expected RS Means to be a lot closer. If the electrician's bids come in in-line with my estimates, that gives them about a 90% mark-up on material. What gives with that?

Well it is the reason more customers that have multiple locations built each year are supplying the lighting fixtures and distribution equipment.

well, my local sq d supply house is around $2600 for the breaker. But, part of the fun of owning a company is knowing where to look for things. So, my main molded case breaker supplier is $1700 for a new CB. Full warranty, guarantee, etc. We've used them many times in the past with no issues.

But without knowing where to look, it's an extra $900.

If you finding yourself needing these high dollar breakers very often, sign up for a free subscription to "The Electrical Advertiser" monthly magazine. There must be a few dozen used and NOS breaker dealers in that magazine every month.
