So I tested the shunt trip on the QOM2200VH1021 while out here in April.

Yesterday, we wired everything up and discovered that "He's dead,, Jim." No connectivity between the 2 shunt-trip wires.

SquareD tells me that while QO breakers [unlike the Home line..] have a lifetime warranty, but a QOMain has a 18 month warranty, from the date code on the label.

My client will not be pleased at the replacement co$t of $600+.

I never heard of lifetime warranty on any such product.

Same breaker is used as a main breaker in both QO and HOM product lines.

I don't know about the shunt trip if it would be treated any differently. I also don't know if that particular shunt trip is able to handle constant voltage to the trip coil or not, if not and you are applying constant voltage when you do utilize that feature - probably no warranty.

If this is within the first year of initial install and it never worked to begin with, maybe they will work with you, even if manufacture date is a little older. You may have to keep on them though.

Just in case, if the shunt trip includes clearing contacts, it would have to be on to read continuity.

Square D has had a lifetime warranty on some residential products for maybe 20 years.

The same products would have 18 months warranty when used in commercial and industrial applications. The warranty starts on the date of manufacture, so it allows for a typical 6 months for the product to sit on shelves while still allowing a contractor to provide a 12 month warranty to most end users.

They are probably not unique among manufacturers.

Did you go to Square D directly for the warranty or your vendor? Your vendor should handle any warranty claims for you. I’ve had the exact problem you describe in be past with QOB breakers and never had an issue getting them replaced. Ive had dead solenoids on i-line type main breakers but the difference there is you can open the breaker and swap the solenoid. But never had an issue with Square D warranty through the vendor.

Got any names/addresses to start with???
Any distributor that basically can get you any product with the Square D name on it (even if they don't stock it) should be able to help, if they are willing to, some may be better help than others. If you are a regular customer that can help as well. Chances are such distributor only handles Square D controls and gear and can't help you at all with say Eaton or Siemens controls or gear at all.

Big box stores or other suppliers that only sell fairly common items are not as likely to be as helpful.
