Well...
Well...
Ok guys, thanks for the PMs. I didn't wanna post until the issue was resolved.
So, Friday night, we tripped the breaker, and unable to do anything.
Well, as the J-Man pulled the contactor out, he told me it was 208 3 phase...
Well, it's really 480V 3 phase... don't I feel stupid... Same concept anyway.
The coil is 480V too!
Saturday morning, the J-man went to the carwash, and talked to the general manager, he was going to bypass the entire thing to get them up and running, when the general manager says... "Oh... no worries, we have a backup!"
The local CEDs (Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Denver) say, yeah, we got one... So, J-man drives to Denver (1 1/2 hours - 1 way) only to find out they are wrong...
So, no bypassing necessary, the car wash wasn't down, and we did not lose face... much...
But, the situation is not resolved.
I do know that the coil is bad. The overload is still good. The contactor still contacts. It just doesn't stay in... A clear mind shouts "coil"...
So, CED says... NEXT Friday and $260... because the contactor comes with it...
I call, they say: "Huh? What part number again? Nope, that's a factory part, sorry. Click" (That's why I don't use Graybar)
So, I went online and typed the numbers in again, and can't find anyone who has a 480V coil... Called a company who is selling one, and they do have one: Coil and contactor: $44.70... I double check the price and overnight it...
So, here we are: Tuesday... the part will arrive today. I made sure we are getting the right thing. I am eager in my anticipation.
So, to back up, I looked at the J-Man's actions: Screw went through wire = sloppy install. The cascading problems (coil fried, tripped breaker) = frustration, and not knowing what he was really doing when he was removing the contactor...
So, Monday morning, he's expecting to get fired. I didn't fire him... he hands his time card to me. There is no time / job for the car wash... he did not charge me for the time... Then, at the trip to Denver, he paid for an overload with his own money... (The overload didn't work because it was the wrong size / part because they don't make this Square D part anymore...)
So, I see that the J-Man is taking ownership for his problem. We are working with CED to get the J-Man his money back (another problem in itself) and
I have ordered the correct part...
All this started because of a barter...
Also, a friend of mine owns Edible Arrangements, who has a barter with the car wash owner... (unknown to me), and she sends an Edible Arrangement to him, with my name and an apology...
So, we're back in good graces, and we haven't even fixed the vacuum.
Tomorrow, when the vacuum gets fixed, the van is going in for a wash!
Thanks Guys,
Greg
