I have a customer who has an old FP panel (stab-lock). Can you connect to an old stab-lock panel or must they upgrade to a new pane?

Home depot use to sell Federal Pacific breakers so as long as you can get breakers for them I don't see why you can't add a circuit to it.

Thanks, I am looking for some info regarding the legality of connecting to one of these panels. I konw it is not safe and I am going to let my customer know about it, however it is a rental property,(commercial building) when they go back to the landlord he is going to give them a bunch of crap. I would like to have some kind of proof so I don't look like I am trying to sell them!
Do you have any info on this or know where I cal get the info. I have placed a call to my inspector to get his input...
 
There is a lot of argument about whether certain FPE breakers are safe or not. You can do a search on this forum for Federal Pacific and you'll find information about lawsuits conceerning FPE breakers.

There has been plenty of information on this forum about FPE. Do a search and you might be surprised as to the amount of information that's out there.

For the record I wouldn't have a problem adding a new CB to an old FPE panel. It's the old CB's that that are already in the panel that I would worry about.

They still make and sell them in Canada...part of Schneider, part of the same company that owns SquareD. Part of their informantion says:

I'm not concerned about the new CBs either....but I am concerned about the old bus ;)
