Stadiium Lighting

We are installing stadium lighting which consist of racks of prewired MUSCO fixtures for a total of 24 fixtures. The fixture racks require (6) ballast enclosures which house (4) ballast in each enclosure. Each ballast operates one fixture. The entire rack is fed from an 80 amp breaker and relay in a control panel ( supplied by MUSCO). We want to run #4 conductors to a junction box located at the center of the (6) ballast enclosures and then tap # #6 from that box to each enclosure housing (4) ballast. Each ballast draws 3.8 amps. The enclosures are within 10 ft. of the junction box. Would be using ILSCO distribution blocks to make the taps. Anyone see a problem with this installation? The inspector implied that the # 6 conductors would require separate overcurrent protection. Each ballast is also fused protected.

IMO, if the unit has a fuse and you have met the requirements in 240.21(B)(1) then you should be compliant. I believe the fuse in the unit would qualify for (1)(b) in that section.

Are you doing design build or did you bid someone else's design?

And did this go through plan review already or did they just give you an over the counter permit with no plan review?

It is an engineered project however he didn't involve himself when it came to the MUSCO installation. He stopped at the 3R panel on the catwalk that powers the lighting rack.
