A customer wants power run from a generator in his detached garage to his service panel via a transfer switch (GenTran 10-circuit) that will be mounted next to the service panel. Is there anything in code which prohibits or puts stipulations on running standy power cable from the generator through the garage roof via a mast/service head and running it to a mast that will feed the transfer switch? Or should it be run underground? Running said cable underground would require some tricky horizontal boring (pricey) or tearing into their sidewalks and large flower beds. The customer has an underground service to the meter base.

Re: standby power mast?

You can run this overhead, but follow 225.18 and 225.19. Be sure to use proper methods for supporting the drop, I.E. messenger if needed.
