Aux Contact

Aux Contact

If the contactor is fed by a on off type switch, then could the auxilary be for maybe back up power. All the auxilary wires on the top terminal are connected and leave the location in a conduit, all the ones on the bottom do the same..One red one black

An auxiliary contact (or switch) is a dry contact that operates when the device (contactor) pulls in. It can either be a NO contact that closes or NC that opens when starter energizes. It can be used as a latching circuit to hold in contactor as others have mention or to signal a remote mimic panel, etc.
In this case it has no wires so it does not apply to your control circuit.

Thanks for the input reguardless...
When this bldg was new 7 starters were on one side 11 were on the other.then as the space was divided up the bs started,,like 3 starters in the middle of the bldg feed 3 fans 500' away,,by way of a single pole switch as well as they refed the fans by pulling circuits from the space with the fans 500' back to the starter..the fans were 100' from the panel...guess somebody wanted to make money doing stupid crap.
