I had a question on my Washington test, if you put 120v in a coil what will happen? Will the current lag the voltage by 90 degrees? Or the Voltage lag the current, I couldn't remember that one.

On a coil, because of its inductance the current will lag the voltage by 90 degrees.

Some background info on this:
Inductors store electrical energy in their magnetic field. And the strength of the magnetic field is proportional to the amount of current flowing through the coil. Because it takes time to build up the magnetic field and its stored energy (and therefore the amount of current that is flowing through the coil), the current will lag behind the applied voltage that is causing current to flow through the inductor.
More details can be provided but they aren't really necessary for this discussion.

You should also review PFC correction capacitance equations (which would be on PE test for sure, not sure if on electrician test but might be)
