Hi,

I'm a newbie, so I hope you'll bear with me if I ask my question in a way that shows my ignorance about electricity!

I live in the Philippines with a standard 240-volt 60 Hz. I am having a deep well drilled, and the issue is the only motor I can find that will fit into my 5" well casing and lift water from the 1000' head depth is a 10hp 3-phase motor that needs to run on 480-volts, so that I will need a step-up transformer. Is it correct that the circuit breaker should be placed into the circuit before the 240-volts reach the step-up transformer? Also, I know that 15kva might be a little overkill, but I wanted to oversize the transformer anyway so I wouldn't come close to overloading it, especially when the motor starts. Plus, I'm having difficulty finding a step-up transformer that meets my needs with less than 15kva in the Philippines.

So my question is: What is the correct amperage circuit breaker that should be used with a 15kva step-up transformer with an input 240-volt 3-phase to output 480-volt 3-phase?
