Misunderstanding with inspectors. Some say you can not share netural anymore without a three pole com. trip breaker or use a netural for each circuit with a single breaker.

The code now requires a means of common disconnect for muiltiwire branch circuits. 210.4(B)

There are a few ways to do that, a common trip breaker is one way, the use of approved handle ties is another.

I agree with Bob,

I keep hearing alot of misinformation from electricians and inspectors about the new requirements for multiwire branch circuits. I have heard perple swear that multiwire branch circuits are no longer permitted, or that they must have a common trip breaker.

Here is the wording of the new section in the 2008 NEC:

(B) Disconnecting Means. Each multiwire branch circuit shall be provided with a means that will simultaneously disconnect all ungrounded conductors at the point where the branch circuit originates.

To go along with the disconnect requirement a new grouping requirement has also been added this is located in section 210.4(D) here is what that section says:

(D) Grouping. The ungrounded and grounded conductors of each multiwire branch circuit shall be grouped by wire ties or similar means in at least one location within the panelboard or other point of origination.
Exception: The requirement for grouping shall not apply if the circuit enters from a cable or raceway unique to the circuit that makes the grouping obvious.

Keep in mind also that much depends on the local area. I do not know what code is in effect in your area (PA). But in my area (WA) we are on the 2005 NEC, and we may not be enacting the 2008 for some time (if at all). So that article may or may not apply to any project you undertake in your area.
