Grainger definitely offers a discount to large volume customers. The discount might be based on a commitment to purchase a certain amount over the next year, thus solving the chicken/egg problem.
I have also discovered they will open the branch for you when you absolutely gotta have it... even if that means 5am on the weekend. It's not free, but when you need it that bad another $50 is well worth it. hmmmm, that price was nearly 10 years ago, wonder what it would cost me now...
