If you are referencing slash rated vs straight rated, it is associated with grounding.
You have to take the phase to phase AND phase to ground voltage into consideration when selecting breakers. A "slash rated" breaker such as 240/120 can not legally be used on a 240 v corner grounded system as the voltage to ground, 240 volt, exceeds the rating
