I got a call asking my price to change a ballast. I'm picturing a 20' ceiling with close shelves and customers in the way. I ask how high the ceiling is. They're a national outfit and they don't know how high the ceiling is. Without that information I don't know what the price is. That was the end of the conversation. I suppose I could have driven to the store to quote replacing one ballast. Do you think it would be a good plan to quote $400 for the first one and $40 for the second one?

I got a simular call a while back of a small chain bank inside a Walmart, they had two fixures out, and wanted to know how much...looked at the labor/unit book....I quoted it at .8/hr x 2, plus parts, and trip fee, with a contingency of it being "un-interupted access", and "accessible with no greater than a 10ft ladder". Got the job and they paid snappy....

So that came to about $200? In this area you can't reach the wall decorations with a 10' stepladder, and I wouldn't go there for $200.

I repaired these lights with a 8ft ladder and was perfectly happy to do it...I was in and out in less than a hour.....
