Stranded Grounding ???

I was told there is a code article that prohibits the use of stranded wire wrapped around a ground screw. Is this so ??? And what would that article be ???
The way I do it there are no loose strands. I always come back an inch or so from the end of the wire and strip a section, pulling the insulation over the end. I was taught this long ago.
This has always been acceptable in the past, if done correctly.
I was gigged for it today and was told that it was in the code book since "99"... Was told that StayCons had to be used with stranded...
Just want to do it right.... Thanks, Jerry

We should probably refer to the UL "White Book" to determine the criteria for the listing of grounding screws. I don't have a "White Book" available. Does the listing or instructions that come with ground screws specify that they be used with solid conductors?

I think it is legal to wrap around the screw, but I usually crimp on a ring terminal.

Agreed.

I have never seen a listed ground screw.

stranded conductors

stranded conductors

Look at the box that the grounding screws came in. It may say "solid conductors only". I know the everyday home improvement stores recepatcles do. This would include the grounding conductors.

Mr. McDowell,
I know the everyday home improvement stores recepatcles do.
Then they must not be listed receptacles as the UL listing for wiring devices says that the screws terminals are suitable for use with stranded wires. The following is from the UL Guide for Receptacles for Plugs and Attachment Plugs (RTRT)
Terminals of the wire-binding screw, setscrew, or screw-actuated back wired clamping types are suitable for use with both solid and stranded building wires.

I agree with Don. If I remember correctly the only limitation is that the conductor not be larger than #10.
