Okay wow, lots going on here. I guess I should be more forthcoming. I am NOT an electrician and my background is more in engineering. I have a lot of hands on experience with panel wiring for large commercial work but quite honestly have never seen the inside of a residential meter box (until now). I've worked in medium voltage switch gear and GIS gear but that experience helps me none here. Company I worked for did very large data centers and hospitals but I was laid off about a year ago when they downsized. I have been doing electrical work for friends in family and in this case the homeowner is actually my retired parents (I'm trying to save them money). Most people I've done work for I have requested they pull permits. I told my parents we should get permits but they have other contractors doing some work unpermitted and I didn't want to cause problems... on hind site I wish I had pushed the issue more since while sometimes frustrating the AHJ can actually be a good resource for issues. Anyway, what is done is done and I apologize for not being fully forward.
I was not able to test with more unbalances load today but I will try and test that today, I've been pleasantly surprised at how steady the voltages were even during motor (A/C startup) though. I will continue checking the neutral again.
I was able to get appropriate torque on the lugs and meter studs despite the slight twisting (I was just concerned it was going to break if I had to keep going). The meter box is potentially 40 years old but one side of the meter connections looks slightly different like it might have been changed at one point and the other side is what looks rough, maybe Ill try and get a picture. Box should probably get replaced though, wish I would have though of that earlier and done a disconnect/meter combo (like someone motioned).
I have an electrician friend who has a lot of residential experience that said he'd come take a look next week and after that I guess I better call POCO.
Since I'm not an electrician I understand if this post is in violation of forum rules and I apologize but understand if it needs to be taken down. If it does thanks for everyone's help!
Oh and on a side note, no flickering, dimming or smoke today but also no tripped breakers.
