Input needed on a weatherproof 8' strip lite being installed in a room that rises dough. The room has to stay at a constant 125 degrees. Now given that flourescents have a thermally protected ballast and being in a room 125deg I dont believe that they will work. I believe ballast will get to hot in this room and continously cycle when it cools off and then gets hot again. Has anybody put them in a room this hot or close to and not had any trouble. or know the ambient air temp. that they are good for

You can probably take a que from how paint drying ovens and the like are illuminated. The flourescents are located outside and illuminate through glass panels or windows.

I don't think it will be possible to to do otherwise.

Look into using a fixture that utilizes T5HO lamps in it. They actually run more efficently at higher temps. I would remote mount the ballast outside of your hot area. I am not sure what the ideal temp for the lamps are, but I know that 125 would probably have you replacing a lot of ballasts. I think they can be mounted up to 15' away.

Check out www.bartco.com for some fixtures and info.

36,
years ago we had a factory that repaired by welding engine heads and blocks -- but they had to heat them in a oven prior to welding. the room next to the oven area and the area that the engines were stored after coming out of the oven were hot--and the ceiling area was over 125 degrees! we had to remote locate the ballasts in another room due to their thermal cutout function! that solved their problem!

I have noticed but didn't think about it but in foundries the smelting room always seems dark and dingy in both summer and winter and I don't remember seeing to many fluorescent luminaries but a lot of incandescent luminaries so the heat has to be the reason for it. How big an area or size of rising room. possibly mount fixture like a paint booth outside the area with glass protection?
