The main breaker need not exceed the total of individual breakers. But don't waste money on more ampacity than you'll need. Sparky555 said:I have a 200A main panel and two 100A subpanels, so I guess it is possible. I didn't do a load calculation because the local AHJ wouldn't know what to do with it, but it's probably around 75A total. It should get higher with some heaters & a welder.
