I vaguely remember something about all conductors in a conduit should have the same insulation rating but I can't find in the code. Am I close or off base on this ?

Sorry Guys, This was a response to another thread but somehow got posted here.

Alot of the cheap parts are not being made in the good ole USA. I will make a stand, I will ONLY buy things that are made in the good ole USA.

I talked to a supplier and he told me the factory told him all my orders would be ready soon. " As soon as all the parts they needed were in from Mexico" that is.

I believe that if conductors of different insulation are used in the same raceway, the rating of all of the conductors has to be that of the lowest rated conductor. I hope that's clear.
For example...If I have a raceway with a tw and a thhn conductor, I have to use the tw rating (60C column) for both.
I don't have my book with me or I'd give a number

I came to this conclusion after numerous callbacks on failed GFCI devices for example that never seemed to happen with say Leviton or P&S devices. My purpose is not to bash Sunstar or anyone else, but to point out that many times a low price does not necessarily mean a good value.

So there!

Bob on the left coast.

Before I started buying lower cost GFI's I had a bad bach of Leviton's. I've never had a bad batch of the lower cost 1's. I buy them by the 100.

Well excuse me......thats the LAST time I post something in THIS area regarding a good experience with a company.

Hell I installed them ALL and they went in fine and had no problems.....guess I am a trader to my country based on these replies.

No problem.....install WHAT you wish....wont have an effect on what I buy regardless...consider the post removed...

Traitor Radio, sending our hard earned $$ not only to China, but to the lowest bidder in China. How can you sleep at night.
Where do you think Halo & Elco are all made? Not here!
Isn't Lightolier made in USA? But have you noticed how all the new recessed cans each have their own cardboard box? Can you say, chop down our trees & fill up our land fills?
I quit!
If its not good for the economy and for the environment I don't want it.

Okay, so how much does it cost to make your own and get them UL approved?

cold call this morning

cold call this morning

I got a call from Sunstar just this morning wanting to know if I had gotten their flyer's and why hadn't I bought anything from them since 'o2. He seemed quiet irked. Thought I should purchase a couple of bags of wire nuts right then and there. Not a good call first thing in the morning. Almost ruined my karma.

Actually they never call me....I always call them...and I got 1,000 free wirenuts which work FINE by the way....and OH....installed 106 of their recesses a few days ago......WORKED like a charm.

Heck.....atleast I am supporting child labor in CHINA...and not by shipping them tailer loads of potatos or enlisting Sally Struthers to support the effort.

personally I dont care where it is made......it was a good price and they worked fine....not my first dealings with them.....so I was pleased and all is good.

It is my opinion that an Ideal wire nut is vastly superior to any other brand. And yes, I have used the Sunstar imitation. I got a free bag of the tan ones years ago. I used a handful and then threw the entire bag out.

lololol.........ahhhh working in VA without a license again I see 77401.....I hear ya fella.....

To be honest.....I really don't see any difference with using them...GUESS my joints are just GOOD to worry about it.

Don't want me BACK....lol....glad the CHECKS have already cleared !

Oh stop it. You guys love each other and you know it. I try all sorts of products by all sorts of manufacturers. SOME WORK WELL AND SOME ARE A DISAPOINTMENT. We don't even agree on alot of these things within my own company so I usually let my electricians use what works best for them. I couldn't care less where the stuff is made because quite frankly there aren't many manufacturers that aren't dealing worldwide anyway.

I will use just about any type of wire nut. But please don't send me any more of those rubber 3M type. Maybe it is just me but I have never felt comfortable with those. I just seems like they spin in the sheel and you have to have a pair of Kliens to squeeze and remove them. Have any of you other guys felt the same about the 3M wire nuts?

I think your reffering to the old "Scotchlocs" type. Those need the wires to be pretwisted and yes they are hard to remove sometimes w/o sqeezing them w/ the linemans. I don't buy em.

Right Bob, that was the name. Guess what, you don't have to buy em, I will give you all you want for free just to get rid of em. Those are probably where a bunch of the old timer electricians got the pre twist habit from. Alot of them still carry that on to the new wire nuts even though they are not supposed to.
