Support of conductors, raceways

All,

I need some help. I am fairly sure that there is an article somewhere in the code that says that you cannot support conductors by tie wrapping them to the outside of a conduit or raceway, but I can't seem to locate it. Aside from the fact that it is poor workmanship, isn't there an article to this effect? Am I wrong? The closest I have been able to find is section 830.58(D) which deals specifically with Network-powered broadband communications cable, but I thought there was something even more general than that.

Respectfully,

If you read the Article that Bryan posted you'll see that it is generally prohibited but there are exceptions. For example, a class 2 thermostat cable could be tie wrapped to a conduit feeding an appliance. This is quite common for installations of boilers. A piece of 1/2" EMT feeding the boiler with the thermostat cable tie wrapped to it.

Thank you

Thank you

Thanks for the help.

I was hoping for something a bit more specific like article 830.58(D) but I can use 300.11(B) to argue my point. This arose when I was reveiwing a design and it actually specified that a #6 AWG bonding conductor be tie wrapped to a lenth of EMT. Anyway, when I mentioned it I was told to produce something in writting that prohibited it.

Have a great day,
