Supporting MC with #12 Romex

I running MC cables across the ceiling. The deck is the metal pan with slots, usually I use Ty-wire to Support it,there is none. I used the the Black#12 wires from romex, boss rather I use Zip ties. I don't like it.
Question: is the #12 wire legit for support? I argued it's thicker & stronger than Ty-wire, his response was "it's copper so, I can't use it." Also the zip ties are Not the Listed ones. What's the verdict? Thanks for the input.

No, you can't use what I used to call #12 strap to support or secure any type of anything, really.
I think a few code cycles ago, the NEC required supports to be listed. BTW, "it's copper so I can't use it" has no bearing on this.
