Supporting of a Romex

I got a new electrical job in a small town. This little house has been abandoned for a few years and is not up to electrical code. There are not enough electrical outlets throughout the home is there anywhere in the code that states I cannot simply cut in a outlet and run the Romax from the attic straight down to the outlet without removing the sheet rock on the wall? Yeah it the Romax will not be supported by staples in the wall but I’ve done this plenty of times for homeowners that want a few receptacles added in the home they’re living in.

Yes NM cable can be unsupported when fished in existing walls. Take a look at 334.30(B)(1).

And if using cut in boxes watch your box fill. I would run 14 for lights, recps use 12 where needed, but most boxes will only allow 2 runs of 12.
