For those that do fairly large commercial jobs with specs(not that it matters I guess) how do you support 4 or 5" box with a smoke detector from gyp or acoustical ceiling? T-bar etc.?
Which bracket for sheetrock? Have a pic or cat #>Caddy makes several options for your application. Here's one for acoustical tile. For Sheetrock you can use a regular wall mounting bracket.

Just for Caddy screw gun brackets.
You’re supposed to tie wire those?Caddy makes several options for your application. Here's one for acoustical tile. For Sheetrock you can use a regular wall mounting bracket.

I think it depends on building code not nec. Still always tie wired them though just like a tougherYou’re supposed to tie wire those?![]()
Technically, yes. Per most building codes, as alluded to by letgomywago, this is a requirement. It is supposed to be independently supported. You’re supposed to tie wire those?![]()
no it is an option depending on the weight needing to be supported. You’re supposed to tie wire those?![]()
I may have been confusing things with the requirement for fixtures. Caddy says their T-bar hangers are good for 20 pounds without additional support, but I don't see anything on their website regarding a UL listing on this.no it is an option depending on the weight needing to be supported.
I've seen the same issue with lights where yes they're listed for support one way but the local building code requires independent support anyway.I may have been confusing things with the requirement for fixtures. Caddy says their T-bar hangers are good for 20 pounds without additional support, but I don't see anything on their website regarding a UL listing on this.
I think it has more to do with the grid and the grid manufacturer's installation requirement than it does the bracket itself for a requirement to tie with an independent wire.I may have been confusing things with the requirement for fixtures. Caddy says their T-bar hangers are good for 20 pounds without additional support, but I don't see anything on their website regarding a UL listing on this.
I've never been able to find anything from a grid manufacturer that directly addresses this. If someone has information on this, please feel free to share.I think it has more to do with the grid and the grid manufacturer's installation requirement than it does the bracket itself for a requirement to tie with an independent wire.
