Suprise, the island microwave is 240V

I've never heard of a 240 VAC microwave, but I don't wire houses for a living either. With that being said, as I prepare to wire our new home once it gets framed (if it ever stops freggin' raining), is this something you guys are preparing for in new homes? Are microwaves moving to 240/120 and should I run an extra conductor to my dedicated microwave circuit just in case it needs one in the future?
Well, you would be in charge of whether you get a 240V MW or not! :)
I don't think MW in general are going to 240V exclusively.

With that said, it's not a bad idea to run either a spare set of conductors, or a chase/raceway, anywhere you might need some future something and would be hard to add one.

It will only be 240V if it’s a combo microwave/convection oven. I’ve never seen a straight residential microwave that requires 240V.

Might just stub up a chase into the attic. Good call. You never know what momma will change in the future. ;)

two 12/2's
Pole-1 120v
Pole-2 120v

Voila, 120v 240v 2N and 2EGC in the island.

Can't do that. All circuit conductors must be within the same cable or conduit.
Yeah, making a joke there....

So run 12-3 for 240 or MWBC. 240 recept, or a 5-20r with middle tab taken off.

Good?

If it's limited to low power, 12-3. If there's any hint it might be a 240v combo oven/micro appliance, 8-3 to a jbox.

If it's questionable, 8-3 is the sure bet.

Most wire jobs have existing specs for wire, no?
