Yes, it is required per (new) 230.67 in the 2020 edition.

Are you going to be doing work in Massachusetts? That is the only state that is using the 2020 NEC so far.
N.C. is still using the 2017 code, as are most states. I don't believe there is a requirement for SPDs in residences in the 2017 NEC unless it is some form of life/safety system;
