I keep reading in various places that there is a light switch that is approved to control a light in a pool and is not required to be at least 5' from the pool. I can not find this switch so I am wondering if any of you know what I am talking about.

I am looking for an "approved" switch that can be installed less than 5' from the pool. See Section 8 (4) in link.

some factory manufactured spas use a pneumatic switch, where pressing on
a button sends a pulse of air to a remote switch outside the 5' rule... and
having no voltage present, or metallic conductors at all, are outside the scope
of the code....

my thought is that might be your easiest solution...

have fun....

I agree the only ones I have seen are air switches which do not have any wires going to them. These are like the ones on hot tubs.

Check out Levitons line of wireless / powerless switches (similar to a barbecue igniter). You will also need a receiver to make the system work.

Leviton# WSS0S-P0x

Not great for long distances, but they do work well.
